JUAN
GONZALEZ (b. 1927)
Juan Gonzales
is a delightfully compulsive tinkerer, who has created some amazing sculptural
pieces of outsider art. This proud WW II veteran worked for 30 years as a
handyman for the First Baptist Church of Lockhart, Texas - and has maintained
this work ethic and a "can do" attitude well into his retirement.
He spends
most of the day in the shed behind his mdest home in Lockhart, Texas, where
he pieces together scrap lumber, broken furniture, appliances, and an infinite
amount of found objects and pieces them together into delightful works of
art and folk art furniture which could well be considered art as well.
We will be
adding more of his works in the coming days. Among his favorite subject matter
are making very detailed scale model versions of the half dozen or so barbecue
joints for which his hometown of Lockhart is famous! Stay tuned!
"The Alamo" - Made of discarded particle board
and cardboard.
"Grandfather clock" - Made from scraps of an old
chest of drawers, lead pipes as the chimes, and a discarded kitchen clock.
